Sarasota Vacation and Accommodations Guide

Sarasota is beaches of sugar white sand, world-class culture, food, fun, and romance

Sarasota Florida Beaches
Sarasota's Skyline
Home to the Greatest Show On Earth, Sarasota, Florida has become a travel destination for visitors looking for pristine beaches and rich cultural history. One of the beauties that Sarasota, has to offer is that this quaint coastal getaway destination has activities and entertainment for the entire family to enjoy. Sarasota is also rich in history, John Ringling chose to move here 1910 and left a lasting impression upon the city with his hotel, venetian style bayfront home - Ca d’ Zan (House of John), and internationally recognized museum, The Ringling Museum of Art.

Perhaps before hitting the town and enjoying one of our thousands of fun-filled family activities, you may want to enjoy a relaxing day taking in the sun and pristine waters of some of the best beaches in the world. Lido Beach provides a picture postcard setting along with sugary soft white sands. Bask in the sun, or build castles in the sand, the family can then take a walk along the beach to one of the many shops on St. Armand’s Circle (also founded by John Ringling), a 100 store up-scale shopping area. If you have a family member that needs special services; beach wheel chairs are available for use near the lifeguard stations.

Sarasota and Siesta Key are blessed with the award winning "world's finest, whitest sand beaches"

Sarasota County boasts 35 miles of beaches and six barrier islands. At Siesta Key, snorkel to see sea sponges on Crescent Beach, or renew your marriage vows on quiet Turtle Beach. Farther south of Sarasota on Venice Beach, wade through gentle surf to gather prehistoric sharks' teeth; you'll find more sharks' teeth here than anywhere else on earth.

If the beautiful beaches are not on the agenda for the day, why not visit the Sarasota Jungle Gardens, one of the country’s oldest zoological gardens. Walking the grounds you will not only view the beautiful gardens but be exposed to the sights and sounds of exotic birds, reptiles & mammals, and don’t forget to look for the rare black jaguar. With over 10 acres of lush green tropical foliage, wander your way through the different jungle trails visiting the garden’s many permanent exotic animal residents. Kids can explore the ‘Kiddie Jungle’ petting zoo, or the entire family can have a once in a lifetime experience of hand feeding the many ‘free roaming’ flamingos on the grounds.

Other fun activities and things to do in Sarasota are the many museums that Sarasota is famous for. For the fine connoisseur of the arts visit Ringling Museum of Art to take in the many fine baroque period paintings including the oversize works of master painter Peter Paul Rubens, and sculptures from John Ringling’s collection. Or for the younger adventurers in your group, visit the Ringling Museum of the Circus where the rich history of the Circus resides, including the world’s smallest big top circus display. In Sarasota, there is something for everyone including the car enthusiast. Visit the Sarasota Classic Car Museum and see John Lennon’s Mercedes Roadster or the beautiful DeLorean made famous in the Back To The Future movies.

Of course while the kids and family are away at play, for the golfer at heart, Sarasota is a golfer’s paradise, boasting over 50 golf courses both public and private. Rich greens and beautiful weather make for picturesque backdrops as the golfer wanders over the greens through woods and lakes. Of course after a hard day of golfing, you are not finished with all the entertainment and activities you could do in Sarasota. Hungry? Head to the many shops and award winning fine dining establishments that are located on the water, or just beyond the beaches... and don't forget Sarasota's eclectic night life! Don’t miss the Gator Club, a two story bar downtown with live entertainment nightly, usually blues and jazz, but the venue sometimes strays a bit. You can also sample the single malt scotch in the upstairs bar. They are quite famous for serving over 100 brands.
